UWELL’s WellCare Pod
“It has been said that what computer programming did for the digitization of society and economy in the last two decades is what Sensory Reality will do for understanding and optimizing mental states and the wellbeing of human beings,”
Although it may sound like the stuff of sci-fi movies – the world of sensory reality is here, and together with virtual and augmented reality, will become a part of our everyday lives and is the future of WellCare.
Sensory reality is where audio-visual experiences are synchronised with smell, temperature, air flow, movement, taste and light frequencies. By stimulating all the senses at the same time, and connecting them to a central experience, your brain is activated on multiple points and it feels as though you really are in that simulated experience or place.
The UWell-Sensiks Express Pod, available at UWELL V&A, is a multi-sensory reality cabinet, equipped with programmable actuators for heat, wind, airflow, tremble, light- and sound effects. Pods can be used to offer stress-reducing events, conjure ‘out of body’ experiences that induce euphoria, relive and process memories from the past, and improving quality of life by offering therapeutic solutions, joy, connection, happiness, and play. In addition to sensory stimulation devices, biometric sensors measure the heart rate, skin conductance, and respiration of the traveller in the pod, all of which feed into the experience, further heightening it. Using artificial intelligence, the pod can tailor the experience to suit the mood of the user, adding to the intensity.
Sensory reality pods have been shown to have a huge impact in the treatment of mental health disorders, PTSD, addiction, anxiety related to cardiac disease, cancer, diabetes, gut health, neo natal illnesses, muscular skeletal disorders and more. The use of cognitive distraction as a pain and anxiety management strategy is well tested and proven. Being immersed in the sensory reality provided by the pod offers distraction from physical and mental pain through “out of body” experiences.
